Before you get a reptile pet, think about these questions:
Be honest with your answers!
- How big will it get when fully grown?
- How long is it likely to live?
- Who will take care of it if I leave to go to college or move away for work?
- What special needs (such as lots of places to climb and stretch out, misting, some direct sunlight, dark crawly spaces, warmth, foods) will my reptile pet have?
- How much time will I spend feeding and bonding with my pet (yes, even reptiles need love!)
- Who else in my house can I count on to help with it sometimes?
- Have I read several (not just one!) books, magazines, current online websites, and other material about my reptile pet?
- Have I talked to people or groups that raise and keep reptiles?
- What do they recommend?
